We Wait

We wait on the dock.
The five of us wait on the dock.
For that one sound that makes our stomach flip.

We wait to hear our name.
To hear our name,
And try to be the one to try and conquer our fears like they were our prey.

We wait in the water.
Watching friends prepare themselves.
Listening for that simple "HIT IT!"

We wait to see them succeed.
Wanting them to feel the excitement that we all felt
On our first trip around that deep, blue and welcoming lake.

I wait for that moment when it is my turn.
Putting on my skis, grabbing the handle.
Then effortlessly standing on the lake that is as smooth as glass.
This is what I have waited for.
