Memories

Best friends for ten years
Sharing secrets, stories, banana splits and root beers.
We laid by your pool all summer long.
We drove in your jeep blasting pop songs.
I was always there to blow out your candles.
You were always there to fill me in on the latest school scandals,
From Mario Kart and silly string fights,
To scary movies and conversations that kept us up all night.
From dress up and American girl dolls
To dances and many trips to the mall
You were always there to dry my tears.
I was always there to calm your fears.
I want to get back to the way that things were.
I need to let go and learn to forgive her.
It’s not that easy, because I don’t know the way.
I need help, someone to tell me what to say.
I fear that I can’t fix this, that I’ve waited too long.
But if I never try, things won’t ever go back to the way they belong.
