Camille Briskin

Box

Here’s a box
Think inside
Left or right
Top or base

Don’t leave the box
Crossing the lines –
Unacceptable, no
It’s deserting what
You know, giving
Into the unknown

Stay strong, remember the plan
Circles don’t exist, nor triangles
Just you and the box, simple, no
Need to wonder. Imagination? I
Don’t know what it means. It
Always told me it would be okay.
Now? what if there was a rectangle? would I survive?

                        I
am
            here
                                            now, and

                scared. no squares

you say? I do not see a line
I look left and right and up and down

all I see are colors and questions and character

a comfort brought on by the rain that is falling, dripping and                     dropping
                                                                    I like it here
