Just Because

Rumbling snores
Cover the doors’
Creaking,
Squeaking,
Opening.
As I creep,
And you sleep
On,
Long,
Hoping.

The night grows deep.
Your breath in your sleep
Is shifting,
Drifting,
Changing.
I stand strong.
Your dreams drift on
Dancing,
Prancing
Fantasy.

My patient’s wick,
Once so thick is
No more,
That door,
Is closing.
I watch your life
Snuffed out by a knife
I’m free
To be
Just me.
