Winter Sonnet

The sunlight fades with sunset’s fast approach,
To wrap the world in Winter’s dark cocoon.
Warm days are gone and frosty hands encroach,
And hope is lost as times of darkness loom.
All nature’s creatures brace themselves to fight,
Against the cold and feelings of despair.
They persevere throughout the endless night,
All huddled up inside their cozy lairs.
Yet dawn approaches, never far away,
Then Winter’s passed and life can spring anew.
A time of birth begins without delay,
And darkness only brings the owl’s coo-coo.
With breaking dawn all times of darkness end,
And Winter’s wrongs can lovely Spring amend.
