A Future

I run through the hallway,
Fleeing the darkness of the past,
Reaching for the bright future.

Lights of other corridors pass by;
Other futures that serve to distract.
Tantalizing shortcuts that trapped many,
A black hole from which few return.

Once I was one of them, but now I am at the door,
Oh! The long awaited door.
With a hand resting on the door, I stop,
Uncertainty freezing my actions.
Is it worth it?
To give up the past, to walk into the future?
